This original vintage chair is considered to be one of the most important and best designs from one of the greatest pioneers of modernist architecture. Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (1886-1969) was a German-American architect who is known for his own Twentieth Century architectural style and was the last director of the Bauhaus, a seminal school in modern architecture. This iconic chair was designed in 1929 for the German Pavilion at the Barcelona International Exposition. A chrome plated flat bar steel frame is thought to be based on ancient Roman campaign chairs.
